Center Stage Casts for 'Motherhood Out Loud'

Auditions are Monday and Tuesday in Southampton Village for monologue driven play.

Coming off a three-week run of "," creative director Michael Disher's Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center is now planning auditions for another play that centers on humorous and compelling monologues.

While "," featured an all-female cast, Disher is now looking for men and women of all stripes to perform in March's production of "Motherhood Out Loud," conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein.

The play includes monologues concerning the experience of motherhood by American writers Leslie Ayvazian, David Cale, Jessica Goldberg, Beth Henley, Lameece Issaq, Claire LaZebnik, Lisa Loomer, Michele Lowe, Marco Pennette, Theresa Rebeck, Luanne Rice, Annie Weisman and Cheryl L. West.

"Motherhood Out Loud" had its Manhattan premiere in 2011 with nonprofit theater company Primary Stages, an incubator of new works, but two years earlier it was performed in a weekend-long engagement at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton Village in a Bay Street @ The Parrish special event, through Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theatre.

Disher said he can use anywhere from four to 14 actors and actresses to put on the show, which includes male, female, straight, gay, surrogate and adoptive perspectives, among others.

He anticipates a short rehearsal period.

Open auditions begin promptly at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, and Tuesday, Feb. 5. Performances run from March 7 to March 24.
