'Bridgehampton Whalers' Exhibition Extended
See the display through March at the William Corwith House Museum on Main Street in Bridgehampton.
The Bridgehampton Museum — formerly known as Bridgehampton Historical Society — is extending is current exhibition through March to give more patrons a chance to learn about an important piece of local history.
The exhibition, "Bridgehampton Whalers – A Farmer’s Life at Sea," includes excerpts from whaling logs, art work by Claus Hoie, furniture once belonging to whaling captains, scrimshaw and exotic mementos brought back from around the world, according to the museum. "The danger, excitement and rewards of hunting the whale is revealed."
The Helen and Claus Hoie Charitable Foundation have donated 15 Hoie works to the museum for the exhibition.

Museum curator Julie Greene will give monthly walking tours of the exhibition, starting with Dec. 13 at noon. "Seeing the exhibit on its own is a treat," the museum states. "Seeing it while listening to Ms. Greene’s enthusiastic and engaging interpretation of events and context is a delightful way to give yourself a gift in the midst of this holiday season."
