Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival Builds to Finale

Don't miss the final three performances of the 30th annual Chamber Music Festival, featuring the works of Purcell, Crumb, Bartok and Shostakovich.

The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival may be ending this Sunday, but this week’s final wrap up for performances means there’s much left to look forward to.

Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., a special performance entitled “From the Mountain to the Moon” will feature the works of five famous composers and a group of esteemed musicians.

The pieces to be performed are selections from Robert Beaser’s Mountain Songs for Flute and Guitar; Brahms’ Zwei Gesänge; George Crumb’s Night of the Four Moons — written in honor of the Apollo 11 moon landing; Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins in C Major and Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor.

This evening’s performers will include Marya Martin on the flute, Frank Huang and Ani Kavafian on the violin, Ettore Causa playing the viola, Clive Greensmith on the cello, Shai Wosner on piano, Jason Vieaux playing both banjo and guitar, Ayano Kataoka playing percussion and Rachel Calloway, a mezzo-soprano, singing.

Tickets will cost between $35 and $45 dollars, depending on seating placement.

This weekend wraps up the 30th annual Chamber Music Festival  with Saturday’s soirée, with a performance by Brooklyn Rider, billed as "not your father’s quartet." Brooklyn Rider consists of violinists Colin Jacobsen and Johnny Gandelsman, Nicholas Cords playing viola, and cellist Eric Jacobsen. 

The event will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a program consisting of Ljova’s Budget Bulgar, Dana Lyn’s Maintenance Music, Bartók’s String Quartet No. 2 and Colin Jacobsen’s Three Miniatures.

Tickets are $30.

The season farewell on Sunday will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring performances of Purcell’s Fantasias for Four Viols, Nos. 9 and 10, Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G Minor, Kevin Puts’ Travelerfor Flute, Violin, Viola, Cello and Piano, and Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major.

Sunday night’s performers will include Marya Martin on flute, Frank Huang and Ani Kavafian on violin, Ettore Causa playing the viola, Clive Greensmith with the cello and Wendy Chen on the piano.

Tickets for the final performance will range from $40 to $50.

All performances of the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival take place at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church at 2429 Montauk Highway.
