Brandenburg Named Director of Choral Society

Veronika Semsakova steps down after four years as executive director of Choral Society of the Hamptons.

Composer David M. Brandenburg has been named the new executive director of the Choral Society of the Hamptons.

He will get his feet wet right away, helping to produce the Choral Society's June 29 production at Most Holy Trinity Church's Parrish Hall in East Hampton. The concert with the Greenwich Village Singers and the South Fork Chamber Orchestra precedes a benefit dinner at The Palm with Choral Society music director and conductor Mark Mangini and soloists.

Brandenburg has composed, designed and arranged for concert performance, theater and television.

“David Brandenburg is an accomplished administrator who knows a wide variety of music and a respected member of the East End cultural community," said Choral Society President Daniel McKeever. "His skills will contribute strongly to the progressively higher standards of performance we have achieved under Mr. Mangini.”

Brandenburg is a co-founder of the Hamptons Shakespeare Festival, for which has he oversaw the finances and personnel during productions, led training workshops and fundraised more than $1.5 million, according to the Choral Society. He also serves as music director of the Sag Harbor Community Band.

He graduated from Yale with a degree in music and went on to earn a master's degree from Columbia University in music and music education. He was the music director of the Yale Jazz Ensemble for 11 years.

Brandenburg has also served as emcee of the Teeny Awards, which recognizes outstanding East End high school actors and singers, and as a panelist for the capacity building initiative of the East End Arts Council and the New York State Council on the Arts, according to a Choral Society statement.

Brandenburg replaces Veronika Semsakova, who stepped down after four years as executive director.

Singers interested in joining the Choral Society can call Brandenburg at 631-204-9402 and visit the society's website, choralsocietyofthehamptons.org.
