Apocalypse Hamptons: Helicopters, Selfies, and Kardashians

The Last Judgment may not be upon us, but at least three of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse seem to be barreling down on the Hamptons.

The first of them arrives from the sky, via a new app called Blade, which is being touted as the Sidecar—a ride-sharing app that matches drivers with people nearby looking for rides—of helicopter travel.

Blade’s target users are travelers to the Hamptons, who want to avoid L.I.E. traffic and the hoi polloi of the Jitney or train but don’t want to pony up $3,000 for a helicopter ride. The app aims to allow them to “crowdsource” their own flights, paying as little as $450 for a seat, which includes a plastic cup of rose and a free copy of the New York Post.

“We want to make it approachable and easy and transparent for young people who think only billionaires fly planes,” Blade’s General Manger Eric Licht told The Post.

The second horseman’s mount is a beach shuttle, and he arrives, of course, taking a selfie.

The Free Ride, which provides free shuttle transportation to and from the center of East Hampton Village and its beaches, is kitting out its 19 electric buggies with backseat iPad “selfie machines”—essentially mobile photo booths.

“Everyone’s very selfie crazy right now,” Alex Esposito, 27, an East Hampton native and Free Ride co-founder told the Post.

Esposito said the social-media self-portraits were tested in Palm Beach, Fla., before being installed in the Hamptons.

The final horseman is two-headed and very tan: the Kardashians, specifically Khloe and Kourtney. We’ve known since March that the sisters were coming to our area to open a pop-up store and shoot a spin-off to their family’s E! reality series called “Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons.”

We now know that they will be bringing their store Dash to 64 Jobs Lane, occupying a 600-foot art gallery space owned by Irma Herzog, whose restaurant the Driver’s Seat is right next door. And we also know that the neighbors are less than thrilled.

What’s more, Herzog is giving the Kardashian girls the space to do with as they please, rent-free. Altruism? Maybe. But in exchange, according to the Daily News, the Kardashians have agreed to shoot episodes of their show in the restaurant, which could increase publicity and hence business.

The Kardashians are expected to touch down in the Hamptons on June 2, with their newlywed sister Kim soon to follow.
