ABC Studios Plans Pilot Based in the Hamptons

Woman seeks payback in "Revenge."

ABC Studios has ordered a television pilot based in the Hamptons — though it is unclear just how much of "Revenge" will be filmed on the East End.

The show is centered around the character Emily, a woman who moves to the Hamptons to exact vengeance on people who destroyed her family, according to industry reports. Though originally billed as a take on "The Count of Monte Cristo," that is no longer the case, according to ABC Studios. But it is being described as a primetime soap opera.

"Revenge" was created by Mike Kelley, the man behind CBS's short-lived but critically acclaimed series "Swingtown." Phillip Noyce, the director of Angelina Jolie films "Salt" and the "Bone Collector," as well as Harrison Ford films "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," has been tapped to direct the pilot.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, the executive producers of the "Twilight" film series, will produce.

The first cast member to be announced is Ashley Madekwe, who played Bambi in U.K. television series "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," which broadcasts in America on Showtime.

Filming locations have not been determined yet, according to ABC Studios.

USA cable network's "Royal Pains," now in its second season, is also based in the Hamptons, though most of the filming occurs in a Brooklyn studio, or in wealthy parts of western Suffolk and Nassau. USA occasionally films beach and vineyard scenes on the East End.

"Men in Black" and "Addams Family" director Barry Sonnenfeld, who lives in East Hampton, filmed an HBO pilot in the Hamptons in 2008, "Suburban Shootout" however, the show was based in a fictional suburb and the show was never picked up.

Last year, NBC ordered a sitcom pilot set in the Hamptons named "Beach Lane," starring Matthew Broderick as an author brought in to save a struggling weekly newspaper. It too was never picked up for a season.
