Weird News: Fearless Geese Found In Hauppauge

Some stories are downright strange. Here's our wrap-up from around Northern Suffolk and the East End.

As a local news organization, Patch covers stories of all kinds, from heartbreaking tragedies to inspiring tales of community brotherhood. But some stories are just plain weird. Here are some of the stranger headlines from the past seven days.

Can't Fool These Birds

Narda Microwave-East in Hauppauge, on the Commack border, specializes in creating state-of-the-art defense technology. Unfortunately for its grass though, the company can't seem to fool Long Island's geese.

Narda has several black cutouts of dogs on its lawn, but it appears the birds have figured out that the predators are a ruse.

On a brief visit to the company headquarters, a flock of about 15 geese happily picked at the grass and wandered around the lawn, completely ignoring their hoax of an enemy.

Blackhawk Helicopter Makes Smithtown Day Fly-by

For a minute at least, the attention at Smithtown Festival Day 2013 shifted from the street to the skies, when a military Blackhawk helicopter made a few low passes over the annual street fair.

Kids, parents, Boy Scouts, vendors and even the patrolling Suffolk County Police officers got a kick out of the fly-by.
