Town Board Honors Eagle Scout

Andrew Fowler earns Scouting's highest honor.

and H.B. Ward Technical and Academic Center senior Andrew Fowler, a member of Boy Scout Troop 58, was recognized by the Southampton Town Board Tuesday with a proclamation praising him on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

According to the Boy Scouts of America, just 5 percent of all Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank last year. On top of earning 21 merit badges, such as First Aid, Emergency Prepardness and Citizenship in the Community; proving leadership ability, and many other requirements, Andrew had to complete an Eagle service project. His project included three benches and a cross for a meditation garden at the . One of the benches is dedicated to the memory of his late father, Richard T. Fowler, who died in 2009.

Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst read from a statement Andrew wrote: "I hope that my project will not only benefit the whole community but also will inspre other Scouts to continue in Scouting to learn the many skills Boy Scouts have. My years in Scouting have helped me to become a better person and a better leader."

In addition to being a Scout, Andrew is a member of the , and he plans to attend SUNY Cobleskill as a farm mechanics major.

"He is a young man truly worthy of the day's honor and we wish him the best of luck in all his future endevours," the town board proclamation reads.
