Temple Donates Bilingual Books to Head Start
Sag Harbor synagogue supports preschool.
’s Social Action Committee and Youth Group presented with $1,700 worth of bilingual books on Feb. 2 — a donation that will help children from needy families for years to come.
Members of the Sag Harbor synagogue, led by James Dwoskin and Leah Oppenheimer, organized the project and collected the funds. According to Bridgehampton Head Start center manager Daphne Gil, the federally funded preschool’s entire classroom supplies and books budget is just $200 annually, meaning it would have taken more than eight years to purchase as many books.
The books will be used in the classrooms and also be made available in a lending library for parents to take a book home and read to their children.
