Southampton Officials Urge Motorists to Stay Off Roads

Southampton's Deputy Supervisor says parts of Dune Road are impassable; flooded.

While Southampton Town police say many of Southampton major arteries are clear, town government officials are urging residents to stay off the roads, especially Dune Road in Hampton Bays, which is flooded west of the Ponquogue Bridge.

"All residents should stay off the roads," said Francis Zappone, deputy town supervisor for the Town of Southampton. "Low temperatures and freezing will continue to present hazardous driving conditions, especially on secondary roads."

Zappone said high winds and snowfall that will continue until 1:00 p.m. have also created white out driving conditions and snow drifts.

All roads within the town have been plowed several times overnight; however, he said that ongoing weather conditions are hampering plowing efforts, which is continuing.
