Southampton Hospital Summer Party Moves

Fundraiser will benefit from Art Southampton's pavilion.

Southampton Hospital's summer party — a major fundraising event for the nonprofit health care facility and a highlight on Hamptons social calendars — is moving to a new location in 2013.

While the hospital has traditionally held the fete at its own grounds on Wickapogue Road in Southampton Village, the 55th annual party will take place on the Elks Lodge fairgrounds on County Road 39, using the same temporary  pavilion as Art Southampton, an international modern and contemporary art fair that will wrap up a couple days before the Aug. 3 fundraiser. That means more of the ticket price will go toward helping the hospital and patients, rather than toward tent rental.

The summer party benefits the Jenny and John Paulson Emergency Department and the new Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart and Stroke Center.

The 100,000-square-foot Art Southampton pavilion is both air conditioned and carpeted, and the Elks' fairgrounds also offers more parking than the Wickapogue Road site.

In 2012, the opening night of the inaugural Art Southampton benefited the hospital. In 2013, opening night will once again benefit Southampton Hospital, while also serving as a kickoff for the summer party.

“Southampton Hospital is delighted to join with Art Southampton in strengthening the collaboration we began last summer, and we are thrilled that they have again chosen us to be the beneficiary of proceeds from their opening-night VIP Preview," hospital President and CEO Robert Chaloner said in a statement.

Nick Korniloff, the founder of Art Southampton, said, "The ability to donate the infrastructure of the Art Southampton pavilion allows our organization and exhibitors to support the Southampton Hospital in its fundraising initiatives that will ultimately benefit everyone who lives, vacations or visits the Hamptons.”

The theme of the summer party this year, chaired by Jean Shafiroff for the third time, is “Magical Madrid.” Audrey Gruss is the honorary chair.

Art Southampton runs from July 25 through 29. For more information, visit art-southampton.com.
