Search Is On for Southampton's People Of The Year

Readers can nominate someone influential and deserving.

With TIME magazine announcing its Person of the Year this week, Southampton Patch thought it might be fun to launch its own People of the Year search.

TIME readers voted on a variety of people who influenced the news most, from Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Kim Kardashian. Ultimately, TIME editors chose the magazine's Person of the Year, "The Protester."

At Southampton Patch we are asking our loyal readers for nominations on the local level. The most thoughtful and most popular top 10 responses will be put out for all to vote on the "readers' choice." Please tell Patch either in the comments section below or by emailing brendan.j.oreilly@patch.com who deserves such a title and why.

It could be a politician, a student, a community member, firefighter or volunteer — whoever you think, just as long as they live, work or serve the community that encompasses Southampton Patch's coverage area: Southampton Village, Sag Harbor, Noyac, Sagaponack, Water Mill, Bridgehampton, Tuckahoe, North Sea, and Shinnecock Hills. (For western Southampton Town's People of the Year, see .)

We'll leave the nominations open for a few days and start the voting next week.
