Sag Harbor Whaling Museum Gets a New Look
The 186-year-old building will be closed during the renovations.
A refurbishment of the 186-year-old Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum building is now underway.
Earlier this month, the museum closed its doors to start the $200,000 project, which is expected to be complete mid-November.
According to Barbara Pintauro-Lobosco, president of The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum, the project will spruce up the museum with the removal of lead paint that will be replaced with a fresh coat by INCE Painters of Westhampton. The building's porches, gutters and finials are also slated to be repaired.
The project, she said, is being partially funded through a $50,000 matching grant from the Century Arts Foundation. The museum has raised its share of matching grant through an art sale that was curated by Dan Rizzie and Peter Marcelle, but she said more funds are needed.
