NBC 4 New York news anchor Chuck Scarborough delivers speech.

Flowers and wreaths were laid at the World War I monument in Agawam Park  Monday during the annual Memorial Day observance by the Village of Southampton Commission on Veterans' Patriotic Events, and NBC 4 New York news anchor Chuck Scarborough gave the keynote.

Scarborough discussed his four years of service in the U.S. Air Force and talked about taking his father, a World War II veteran, back to Europe for the first time since the war, 11 years ago, at the age of 80.

He said that while standing in an American cemetery abroad full of servicemen and women who gave their lives so far from home, "you understand truly the meaning of this day, and why it is so necessary."

The Southampton High School band and chorus performed patriotic songs and Kristen Steinke sang the National Anthem.
