PHOTOS: Museum Hosts 'Prehistoric Monster Hunt'

SoFo staff guides parents and children on a trek through the woods to witness the wildlife in Long Pond.

Executive Director Frank Quevedo, SoFo Board of Directors President Andy Sabin, and SoFo Nature Educator Heather Abrams took dozens of curious parents and children through the woods to see what really goes on under the surface of Long Pond during a "Prehistoric Monster Hunt" earlier this month. Snapping turtles and painted turtles were the stars of the show. To prepare for the day, Sabin and Abrams set out nets with bait the night before, so that everyone could see and touch the animals closeup. After the hike, all the animals were safely returned to their pond home.
