Moms Talk Q&A: Should Parents Let Their Kids Drink Soda?

With childhood obesity on the rise, fingers are pointed at sugary soft drinks.

To combat childhood obesity — and adult obesity for that matter — states have proposed a soda tax, or at least removing soda from the list of groceries that are exempt from sales tax.

Soda, whether it's made from cane sugar or corn syrup, is loaded with empty calories. Apple or orange juice can be just as tasty and refreshing, while also being nutritious.

Though diet soda has no calories, it has problems of its own. Most recently, a study linked drinking diet soda daily with an increased risk of stroke.
