May 27: Attend an Exhibition Opening; Designate a Driver

Police plan DWI checkpoints for Memorial Day weekend.

The sun will rise at 5:23 a.m. and set at 8:11 p.m.

Hobnob with local artists, break for refreshments with charity riders, see a museum exhibition, and drink responsibly on Friday in Southampton.

1. The opening reception for  will take place at 6 p.m. at Tripoli Gallery of Contemporary Art, 30 Jobs Ln in Southampton Village. Featuring the work of Matisse Patterson, the solo exhibition is inspired by the signs by the same name whenever one of the inlets is opened into the ocean. Refreshments will be served.

2. from their Little Shelter's Bike for Barks, a 100-mile marathon from Port Washington to East Hampton, for some refreshments before finishing their ride. The event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at in Water Mill. Refreshments will be available for all from Hint Water.

3. Check out at at the between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Organized by Parrish Director Terrie Sultan, the exhibition focuses on the artist’s longstanding engagement with the themes of language, writing, and a sense of place. This is Sarmento's first solo exhibit in this country since 1999.

4. There will be DWI checkpoints and increased patrols throughout Southampton during the holiday weekend. Check back later this morning for what local police agencies have planned to catch drunk drivers.
