Jan. 14: Come Together for Civility, Varsity Wrestling and '50 Million Frenchmen'

Local leaders will stand on steps of Southampton Town Hall to vow civility.

Friday in Southampton starts with a solemn event in response to the shootings in Arizona that took six lives and left 14 victims injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

1. At 9 a.m., on the steps of , local leaders will gather for an event titled “." The event, which is open to the public, is billed as being part of a larger movement "to shine a light on our own actions and make a conscious effort to wield our treasured freedoms with more tolerance and grace." 2. A will immediately follow the "Coming Together for Civility" event. The agenda includes a presentation by Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley on a proposed for municipalities. The town board will also discuss staffing in the comptroller's office, financial reporting and the role of the internal auditor.

3. hosts the Hampton Bays Baymen at Southampton High School at 7 p.m. Come out to support the home team.

4. Catch in its second weekend at 8 p.m. The musical is being staged at the . First opened on Broadway in 1929, the musical refers to the hit 1927 song "Fifty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong" by Willie Raskin, Billy Rose and Fred Fisher, which compared free attitudes in 1920s Paris with censorship and prohibition in the United States. Admission is $25 per person and $12 for students younger than 21 with identification.
