Hayground Farmers Market Enjoys Sunny Friday

The farmers market takes place each Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The sun was shining and the wind was blowing for the Hayground School Farmers Market in Bridgehampton on Friday.

Despite the breeze that threatened the awnings ever now and then, local farmers, vendors, and even a restauranteur enjoyed a steady flow at the market, which takes place each Friday on school grounds from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The span of goods varies at the market this season. Cheese from Mecox Dairy, of Water Mill, to chocolate from Fat Ass Fudge, a Springs-based company, ice cream from Joe & Liza's, of Sag Harbor, to nut butter from a Huntington business, customers can walk around and sample items to take home to enjoy for the weekend.

Bryan Futerman was making pizzas with the school's portable wood burning oven. The owner of Foody's, a Water Mill restaurant that celebrates its eighth year in business on Saturday, said market-goers can enjoy a slice or order a whole pie for dinner.

"This is a great farmers market to come to," he said, adding that he tops the pizzas with fresh vegetables and cheese from vendors at the market.

Juliette Logie was manning Simply Sublime's booth. A health-food store in East Hampton that Logie and her sisters opened last summer, she was selling fresh juice and edamame guacamole.

Gourmet Sorbet was a popular stop on this warm May day. A new company that sells to stores across the South Fork, Gourmet Sorbet mixes season fresh ingredients. Options range from cucumber, wine and mint to key line coconut.

Bhumi Farm, a new farm in Amagansett, and Bonac Farm, which has a plot at EECO Farm in East Hampton, are just starting to get ther names out there at farmers markets.
