Hampton Library Budget Passes

Under the $1.5 million budget, hours will be extended at the library.

Voters approved a $1.5 million 2014 budget for Hampton Library in Bridgehampton on Saturday.

Bridgehampton voters also elected two trustees to the board, while Sagaponack voters elected one trustee.

In the Bridgehampton district, voters approved the budget 51-to-3, while Sagaponack voters approved the budget 24-to-2, a 90 percent approval rating in each district.

The budget is increasing by $30,100 in the upcoming fiscal year. For those with a property assessed at $1 million taxes are expected to increase $2.96 to $153.47.

Bridgehampton voters elected Mary Lee with 51 votes, and Sandra Ferguson with 50 votes. Both ran uncontested for a three year term.

The Honorable Bruce Kaplan, who also ran uncontested, was unanimously elected by the Sagaponack voters. He will also serve a three-year term.

"As part of the 2014 operating budget the Hampton Library will be increasing its operating hours until 9 p..m Monday through Thursday," according to Kelly Harris, the library director. The new hours will begin on Nov. 13 with an open house celebration beginning at 7 p.m.

Harris said she and the trustees would like to thank everyone who voted to support the library.
