Grant Will Create Outdoor Visitation Area for Pet Adoption

Youth Bureau grant aids Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation.

Two Southampton Scouts accepted a grant Tuesday from the Southampton Town Youth Services Bureau for the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation.

Brothers Carlin Byrne, of Boy Scout Troop 58, and Keegan Byrne, of Cub Scout in Pack 14, were presented with a check at a Town Board meeting.

"The foundation is using the money to build a fenced-in outdoor visitation area," Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation spokeswoman Linda Goldsmith said. "This is a natural and quieter setting for potential adopters to visit with our shelter dogs."

The shelter also received the grant in 2012, when it was used for a pet food pantry shaped like a dog house, according to Goldsmith. "It is now helping those in our community who have fallen on hard times to keep their pets by providing the donated pet food."
