Feb. 9: 'Momsday' Is Here

Catch an art exhibition, get a hair extension to battle breast cancer, learn some cookie recipes and  — oh, yeah  — Momsday is here!

1. The 's Levitas Center for the Arts celebrates Black History Month with "," an art exhibition featuring Brent Bailer, Sheila Batiste, Nancy Brandon, Maxine Townsend-Broderick and Reynold Ruffins. The exhibition is open from noon to 4 p.m. today. See the for more on the exhibition and other Black History Month events at the cultural center.

2. today between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at in exchange for a $15 donation to the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center. Appointments can be made, but walk-ins are also accepted. Call 631-726-8715.

3. Join the at noon for a with Elizabeth Yastrzemski, a home baker, who will teach how to make two types of cookies, Austrian linzer tarts and German springerle, while using homemade beach plum jelly. Reservations are required, so call 631-283-0774.

4. It's finally here: The first Momsday on Southampton Patch. From here on in, . It starts at 6 a.m. with "Frugal Family," offering a quintet of deals and discounts being offered by local businesses. At 10 a.m., come back for the "Grab & Go Kids Planner," a weekly guide to events and activities for children and families. At 1 p.m., the , and whoever else would like to join the discussion, considers a parenting question and what the best answer is. Then at 2 p.m., Southampton Patch honors a Whiz Kid  — an outstanding youth in the community who deserves a pat on the back. It's all leading up to The Great Escape at 4 p.m., one great idea for a way to take a break without breaking the bank.
