Shabbat Services

Student Cantor Julia Katz, will be a special guest this evening. Followed by Oneg Shabbat.

This week's Shabbat has a special name, Shabbat Shira, or "Shabbat of Song." In our Torah portion "B'shalach," we read how the children of Israel were delivered from slavery in Egypt, crossed the Red Sea, and celebrated their freedom with song and dance. The week's Friday night service will include a sermon in song by Student Cantor Julia Katz, with musical accompaniment by Keelan Watlington. We will explore the concept of "music as midrash," music as a way of interpreting text, by learning about the ways in which different musical settings of the Mi Chamocha prayer can enhance and elevate our understanding of the words.
