Community Mourns Boardy Barn Bouncer

Sunday's laughter and celebration of the coming summer season turned to tears on Monday as the Hampton Bays community mourned the loss of one of their own.

Jason Hobson, bouncer at the Boardy Barn, known affectionately as H-Bomb, died suddenly in his sleep only a day after friends shared a sunny Sunday afternoon with him at the popular club.

Ferry Service Across Lake Agawam Pitched for 2014

A group of Southampton residents wishes to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of a local historic figure by re-launching his ferry service at Lake Agawam.

The Agawam Ferry Company is proposing to run a ferry daily from sunrise to sunset in July and August of 2014, taking passengers between Agawam Park and Gin Lane. The boat would be named for the man who inspired the new ferry, Pyrrhus Concer.

Feds Green Light Montauk Beach Renourishment Project

Federal funding has been secured to start the beach rebuilding process on the South Fork, including in Montauk, Rep. Tim Bishop and town officials announced on Tuesday. 

The federal Office of Management and Budget approved $700 million of the $3.5 billion Congress appropriated for construction projects in the areas impacted by Sandy, as part of the implementation of the US Army Corps of Engineers' Fire Island to Montauk Point Reformulation Study, a 50-year assessment of shoreline conditions along 80 miles of coastline.

Neighbors Blast Vineyard 48

Neighbors who said their quality of lives have been irrevocably altered turned out at Tuesday night's Southold town board meeting to blast Vineyard 48.

The winery, located on County Road 48 in Cutchogue, has sparked fierce opposition in recent years with loud dance parties, large crowds, and a flood of cars, limos and party buses that residents say have converged on their bucolic landscape.

Proposed New Bowling Alley Sign Has Some Seeing Red

A new sign proposed for outside the All Star bowling lanes in Riverhead could transform the area into something akin to the Las Vegas strip, some neighbors are protesting.

The Riverhead zoning board of appeals is slated to hear an application on June 13 at 7 p.m. from the All Star bowling alley for permission to erect a new 32 square foot illuminated and animated sign.
