Bridgehampton Gets 9 inches; 'Dangerous' Temps Across Area

The storm played out just as expected, officials said Friday.

When all was said and done, Hercules packed about as heavy a punch as expected, with 9 inches of snow dropped on the Bridgehampton area, according to official numbers from the National Weather Service.

The storm held no surprises, said Mike Silva, meteorologist at the National Weather Service Office in Upton,

"This pretty much panned out exactly as we expected," he said. "We expected six to 10 inches of snow, with maybe a little bit higher out east. Some places managed to touch a foot."

Winds, however, weren't quite as fierce as initially predicted, but were starting to pick up Friday morning, with "very dangerous" temperatures across Long Island. With the wind chill factor, some areas felt as though it were minus 11 degrees, with a range of minus three to minus eight.

Temperatures are not expected to rise higher than the upper teens for most of Long Island Friday.

Two last bands of snow are slated to continue moving across Long Island Friday morning, one in Suffolk County and one over northern Nassau; another inch or two of snow will fall by 1 p.m., when the white stuff should disappear from the area completely.
