Blessing of the Animals Happens Sunday

Ceremonies, held around the Feast Day of St. Francis, are happening around Southampton. Tell us where.

Christians celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment, on Oct, 4 by having their pets blessed. In East Hampton, there are many blessings to choose from, so gather up your dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, scaled friends and feathered friends and head to your local church over the next few weekends.

Here are three that we know of happening around Southampton. If you know of others, leave a comment below.

• Sacred Heart in Southampton at 10 a.m.

• St. John's Episcopal Church in Southampton at noon

• Old Whalers Church in Sag Harbor will hold a blessing at 1 p.m.

• Christ Episcopal Church in Sag Harbor at 10 a.m.
