Architects Lead Walking Tours of Historic Southampton Spots

Southampton Historical Museum series begins June 26.

The has organized a series of seven walking tours of historic Southampton homes and neighborhoods lead by well-known architects.

Tours take place every Sunday, except for Fourth of July weekend, beginning June 26 and lasting through August 23. The tours start at 11 a.m. and will last for one hour. Admission is $10 per person and free for members of the Southampton Historical Museum. Each tour begins at a different address.

"Halsey Lane … From the Beginning" with Marjorie Goldberg, AIA
When: June 26, 11 a.m.
Meet: Corner of Halsey Lane and Mecox Road, in front of the horse pasture

"Parrish Arboretum ... Past to Present" with Siamak Samii, AIA

When: July 10, 11 a.m.

Description: Brief history of the Parrish Art Museum grounds and plans for its future.

"Summer by the Sea, The Founding Of Southampton’s Summer Colony" with Gary Lawrance, AIA
When: July 17, 11 am
Meet:  The public parking area at located at 14 Gin Lane.
Description: Discussion of the first summer residents from New York City who came to Southampton and settled, forming the Summer Colony. 

"Halsey House … Old House/Green House" with Bill Chaleff, AIA, LEED AP
When: July 24, 11 am
Meet:
Description: Discussion on how Southampton's historic homes, exemplified by Halsey House, are “green” according to today’s standard of design and construction. Participants will “sleuth” their way through the subject building looking at materials, construction, technology, siting and culture in order to see how integrated design, cultural and technological evolution worked to produce an indigenous iconic building, and how houses continue to evolve, reflecting the ever-changing demands of time and place.

When:  Aug. 7, 11 a.m.
Meet:  Corner of Post Lane and Little Plains Road, Southampton Village
Description: The correct way to detail doors, entrances, dormers and porches.

Renovations and Additions To Historical Structures with John Laffey, AIA
When:  Aug. 14, 11 a.m.
Meet: 
Description: Discussion on the renovation of Our Lady of Poland Church.

Elm Street and Neighborhood with Eric Woodward, AIA
When: Aug. 21, 11 a.m.
Meet: Corner of John Street and Elm Street, Southampton Village
Description: A discussion of late Victorian, early 20th century, and Arts and Crafts style homes.
