#86 - Take a Historical Walk Through Southampton Village

History abounds the streets we walk on.

Once you get tired of perfecting your tan on the beach, take an afternoon to learn how Southampton became the bustling locale that it is today. Set aside a couple of hours — and wear comfortable shoes. 

Start your adventure at the on Meeting House Lane, where you can tour , and other structures on the property, including a 19th century paint store, a blacksmith’s shop, a cobbler’s shop, a one-room schoolhouse, and a Colonial-era barn. Admission is $4, free for members and children under 17, and the mansion is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From there, check out the on South Main Street. Built in 1648, this house is one of the oldest English frame houses in the state filled with 17th and 18th century furnishings. The Halsey house is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from July through Labor Day or by appointment.

Visiting the quaint Elias , built in 1686, will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Speak with  to arrange for a private workshop. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
