1. County to Madonna: Stop Cutting Through Preserved Land

On Sept. 18, Patch reported that the county planning department issued Madonna and a Bridgehampton construction company a cease-and-desist letter because the county said that an access road being used violates preservation law. 

2. Eight Agencies Respond To Water Mill Blaze Tuesday

Several fire departments responded to a house fire on Woodthrush Lane, off Deerfield Road, in Water Mill on the afternoon of Sept. 3, after the house was struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm. Firefighters were on scene for eight hours, fighting flames, which the North Sea fire chief later described as stubborn and difficult to get to.

3. 'Tornado' Reportedly Sighted In Area

Despite reports of a tornado headed toward the South Fork on Sept. 13, meteorologists said the technical word for the phenomenon is a "water spout."
First responders in the Riverhead and North Fork area said they heard reports of a "tornado in the Mattituck or Laurel" area around 2 p.m. on Friday.

4. Al Qaeda Hijacks Sag Harbor Village Website, Report

The Village of Sag Harbor’s website was briefly taken over on Sept. 10 by "Web Soldiers Team from the Islamic Electronic Army. If you visited the village website during the half-hour window, you saw a six-minute video featuring Osama Bin Laden was playing. The case was later handed over to the FBI.
