Children’s is an important one. Volunteers provide
reception for families, offer hospitality, keep the room
neat and tidy, re-stock snacks and beverages, maintain
statistical records and enforce policies. The following
four-hour shifts are available: 9 am to 1 pm, 1 pm to 5 pm,
and 5 pm to 9 pm.

Research shows that a family presence in the hospital
helps children heal faster and cope better. Staying close
by allows parents to better communicate with their child’s
medical team and improves adherence to complicated
treatment plans. The Family Room provides an oasis of calm and rest for these families, which increases their
ability to advocate for their child.
