AFI Achievement Awards, Saturday, November 2

Master Artist Kendall Shaw, Comedian Doug E. Doug, Native American screenwriter/director James Bird, and Native American performer/cultural teacher Annawon Weeden, were all honored with Achievement Awards at the AFI awards ceremony on November 2. 

Kendal Shaw, 90, top left with art collector Timothy Griffen, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his passionate and visionary contribution to abstract art for more than 60 years.


Doug E. Doug, top right with AFI founders Princess Angelique Monet and Rasheed Bahti, was presented with two awards: a Performance of Arts Merit, for his work as an actor, performer, and comedian; and Best Historical Narrative, for his narration of the documentary Lessons of Hayti.

James Bird, bottom left with Princess Angelique Monet and Milk (her ventriloquism friend), was presented with the S.E.L.F. award standing for Self Esteem Lives Forever, through "positive communications," for his two films: "Chasing Shakespeare" and "Eat Spirit Eat."

Annawon Weeden, bottom right, was honored for his work in documentary films and his continued mission to world peace through educating the public about Algonquin/Native Culture.
