Supervisor Candidates Will Debate at Pancake Breakfast Thursday Morning

Your guide to what's going on in the community.

Good morning, Southampton. We're almost at the weekend. Just a few more days . . .

— How are you liking this cooler weather? I'm already missing summer. Today will be a bit warmer. The weather forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 73F.

— We'll start Thursday morning at Southampton Chamber of Commerce's Pancakes and Pundits Buffet Breakfast this morning. Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst and challengers Linda Kabot and Phil Keith are set to debate at the breakfast meeting at Seasons of Southampton in Southampton Village from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

— Take advantage of the full moon with a paddle on Sagg Pond with the Group for the East End on Friday. The half-mile paddle across the pond to the ocean beach in Sagaponack, and then enjoy a fish barbecue prepared by Peter Ambrose Catering. End the evening with a paddle back across the pond under the light of the moon. Advanced registration is required. Contact Kristina Lange at klange@eastendenvironment.org or 631-765-6450 x 216.

— Why not ditch your car Friday? The first-ever World Car Free Day is coming to Long Island. The event was designed to highlight and reverse some of the negative impacts of travelling in single-occupancy vehicles. So bike to work, put on your walking shoes, or even hop the train. Will you take part?

— Looking ahead a bit — East End SEPTO is hosting a workshop with Carol Kranowitz, the author of "The Out of Sync Child: Understanding Sensory Processing Disorder and Its Effect on Learning and Behavior" at Southampton High School on Nov. 16. Register through Paypal on the organization's website.

— The American Diabetes Association says that every 17 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes. The Department of Health Services, in collaboration with Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, will hold diabetes seminars, starting in October for county residents in the communities a bit further west. The closest seminar will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Riverhead on Monday evenings Oct. 28, Nov. 4, 18, and 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Seating is limited so register early by calling Anastasia Loper at (631) 727-7850 ext. 340 or email abl98@cornell.edu.
