Community Meeting on Merger Advisory Vote on Wednesday

Good morning, Southampton.

— Keep in mind there will be some delays in Southampton Village through Thursday due to paving and drainage projects .There will be periodic lane closures on North Sea Road between Prospect Street and Bowden Square. Drivers should expect delays and avoid this area.

— Flags will fly at half-staff today in honor of the 30th anniversary of the bombing of the military barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, in which 241 American servicemen were killed. Twenty-four of those killed were New York residents. Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the flags be lowered at all state buildings. 

— On Wednesday evening, another Merger Advisory Vote Community Listening Tour Meeting will be held. The Southampton School District is hosting the meeting at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton at 7 p.m., ahead of the straw vote about merging with Tuckahoe School District on Oct. 29.

— Southampton Town police detectives are investigating a report of a home invasion in North Sea last week. Police said it was just before midnight on Oct. 15 when two men barged into a home on Widener Lane carrying a revolver and a shotgun while someone was in the house. Police said the two men grabbed $1,500 in cash from an envelope inside the home as well as the keys to a Ford vehicle, and then fled. 

— Mark your calendars. The Southampton High School Outing Club will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner on Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria to help raise funds to support their trips. Tickets are $10.
