Relay for Life Coming to Bridgehampton May 31

Cancer Society benefit brings together survivors, family and friends.

The South Fork Relay for Life, a benefit for the American Cancer Society, is coming May 31, and this year the fundraiser will take place outdoors on the Bridgehampton School track.

During Relay for Life events across the country and globe, teams camp out overnight as members take turns running or walking around a track. More than 30 teams will take part in the South Fork Relay for Life.

Among the teams returning this year are the Southampton High School Key Club, the Hampton Bays Key Club, Kids Fighting Cancer and Jitney Drives Out Cancer.

Jitney Drives Out Cancer, a team composed of Hampton Jitney employees, has raised more than $20,000 for the cancer fight in the past five years, according to relay organizers.

Morrow Family Team, led by Bridgehampton School District Superintendent Lois Favre, Ed.D., who is also a committee member for the 2013 event, consists of cancer survivors who were diagnosed before turning 50 years old.

The South Fork Relay for Life will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday, May 31, and conclude at 6 a.m. June 1 at Bridgehampton School.
