Village Police Log: Teens Stole Range Rover From Dealership

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Village Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

arrest reports for Nov. 29 through Dec. 19:

Joy Riding

• A 15-year-old boy from Sagaponack and two 14-year-old boys from Sag Harbor were arrested Dec. 17 at 3:45 a.m. and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, as well as unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Police said the teens were driving a 1998 Range Rover erratically eastbound on Hill Street, and, after investigation, discovered the vehicle was stolen earlier that night from the parking lot of Southampton Range Rover. All three juveniles were processed and released to their parents, police said. They all will have to appear in Family Court.

DWI

• John C. Dutton, 24, of Water Mill, was arrested Dec. 2 at 7:43 p.m. and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Dutton in a 2001 Audi while traveling southbound on David Whites Lane for failing to stop at a stop sign and, after further investigation, he was arrested.

• John J. Romero, 22, of East Hampton, was arrested Dec. 11 at 4:40 p.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police stopped Romero in a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta traveling eastbound on Hampton Road for exceeding the posted speed limit by 25 miles per hour, police said. Upon further investigation, he was arrested and charged, police said. He was processed and held for morning arraignment.

• Gabriel L. Narvaez, 22, of Southampton, was arrested Dec. 16 at 11:45 a.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, a felony. Police stopped Mr. Narvaez while operating 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe while traveling eastbound on County Road 39 for exceeding the posted speed limit.  Mr. Narvaez was processed and held for arraignment.  His vehicle was seized as per the Suffolk County Vehicle Seizure Law.

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance

• Luis A. Mendizabal, 21, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 9 at 9:43 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and loitering in the first degree, both misdemeanors. While on routine patrol, officers noticed some suspicious activity involving Mendizabal in the area of McDonalds and upon further investigation found Mendizabal to have a quantity of crack/cocaine, police said. He also was wanted on a warrant from the Prince County Police Department in Manassas, Va. for failure to appear on a burglary charge, police said. He was processed and remanded to the Suffolk County Jail in lieu of $300 bail.

Endangering the Welfare of a Child

• Victoria Nava-Ochoa, 26, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Dec. 19 at 2:19 p.m. and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Police said they received a call that there was an unattended child in an unlocked vehicle in the CVS parking lot. Upon arrival, they found a 4-year-old child asleep in the back seat of a 2006 Honda, police said. Nava-Ochoa was processed and released on an appearance ticket.  A referral to Child Protective Services was made.
