Southampton Town Denied Injunctions Against Party Houses

Officials say they will continue to monitor the situation at the Gilt City house and another in Water Mill.

The New York State Supreme Court had denied Southampton Town's request for injunctions against two homes where the town says businesses are being operated in a residential area.

"We will continue to monitor them for the rest of the summer," Town Attorney Tiffany Scarlato said of the houses Wednesday. As for the denial she said, "It happens."

Code enforcement has issued numerous violations at the houses that will have to be dealt with by the end of the week, Scarlato said.

The first home is at 1432 Scuttlehole Road in Bridgehampton, which was reportedly rented by Gilt City for parties, classes and other events the group coupon company would charge admission for.

Gilt City initially tried to set up shop in East Hampton Village but when the village board moved to oust them.

The second is at 2136 Deerfield Road in Noyac, which has been the subject of numerous complaints from neighbors and visits from code enforcement.

Mark Humphrey, who lives across the street from the Deerfield Road property, said the house has been a nightmare for four years and he has called the police at least seven times this summer at all hours of the night to complain about noise from large parties.

“One time I couldn’t even find my driveway,” he said.

in a hastily called meeting, the town board voted to give the town attorney's office the go-ahead to seek an injunction.

"It's greed and it’s city people and it’s power and taking advantage of small town ways," said Councilwoman Nancy Graboski, who intitated the resolution.
