Times Talks to Romney Fundraisers Guests

New York Times reporters on the ground in the Hamptons Sunday for three separate presidential fundraisers at exclusive estates.

As former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney made a swing through the Hamptons on Sunday — starting at Revlon chairman Ronald Perelman's East Hampton estate known at The Creeks, then off to Meadow Lane in Southampton Village at the mansions of Koch Industries' David Koch and former U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Cliff Sobel — New York Times reporters followed.

At each stop, Romney attended a pricey fundraiser for his presidential campaign; admission was $50,000-per-individual and $75,000-per-couple at the Koch estate.

The Times reports running into in , and a smaller protest at Perelman's.

New York Times reporters spoke to attendees on their way in and out of the estates, including Ted Conklin, the owner of in Sag Harbor. He told The Times what he thinks of President Barack Obama: "He is a socialist. His idea is find a problem that doesn’t exist and get government to intervene.”

A line from the Times article that was oft-quoted in the media Monday came from Laura R. Schwartz, who was waiting in line in a black Range Rover outside the East Hampton fundraiser. “Is there a V.I.P. entrance?" she asked a Romney aide. "We are V.I.P.”
