Three Modest Applications Added to Architectural Review Agenda

Village Launderette seeks to relocate entry. Additions planned for Pierpont Street and Post Lane.

There are three new applications — none within a historic district — scheduled to be reviewed at the next public hearing of the . The ARB will meet June 13 at 7 p.m. at .

Dr. Christoph Poeppinghaus, 86 Post Lane: build 617-square-foot second-floor addition on rear wing of house. Will Schulz is the architect. The work is in the rear of the house and leaves the front of the house nicely intact. Sixteen neighbors were notified.

Thomas & Claire O’Connor, 59 Pierpont Street: build second-story addition over main body of the house. Fifield Piaker Elman of New York City and Westport, Connecticut, are the architects. Twelve neighbors were notified. These owners had to get a variance in order for the second story to align with the first story because the front of the house is slightly over the required front yard setback boundary. During this process some of the neighbors felt the proposed addition would make the house too large for the street. I wish the divided lights would be more vertically proportioned rather than horizontal and hope the shutters will be wood. I would also prefer that the shed dormer roofs have shallower pitches so as to be more secondary to the overall hierarchy of the front elevation. And I think it's a shame not to provide some sort of covering over the front entry door. But overall I think the style of this renovation is in keeping with the village's traditional character.

Equitable Southampton, LLC, 34 Nugent Street: exterior alterations. This is the building. They want to relocate the entry and make the entry a pair of doors rather than a single door.
