Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program Hosts Open House

Event planned for Monday at Wölffer.

A program for children and young adults with cognitive and physical disabilities will host an open house Monday at the  Stables in Sagaponack, offering attendees the chance to meet the staff, riders and horses and observe therapeutic riding lessons.

The nonprofit Center for Therapeutic Riding of the East End, aims, through horseback riding lessons, to teach riders with sensory integration issues to increase balance, muscle control and strength.

“Equine assisted activities such as grooming and tacking the horse help the rider with sequencing skills and fine motor coordination,” a CTREE statement issued Tuesday reads. “The relationships that develop between riders and volunteers and staff provide a positive emotional experience. The horse provides many riders with the motivation to learn new things, and learning specific riding skills increases the riders’ self esteem.”
