Suspect in Dressing Room Cam Case to Be Arraigned Friday

A level-two sex offender accused of placing a video camera in a dressing room during a swimsuit fashion show in Southampton is scheduled to answer a felony indictment on Friday.

Police said that on July 12 Robert Liguori, of 2 Whittier Dr. in Mastic Beach, entered the female models' changing area, positioned the camera on a shelf and left. But before he could retrieve it, an intern discovered the camera, and the fashion designer behind the show, Lu Berry, removed it, according to authorities.

Southampton Village police arrested Liguori at his home on Sept. 18 and executed a search warrant, seizing videos and photos. He was initially ordered held in lieu of $32,000 bail, but on Thursday a Suffolk County Criminal Court judge remanded him to the county jail in Riverside without bail.

Liguori was originally expected to be indicted Thursday, but the case was delayed one day. According to online court records, Liguori could be facing five counts of unlawful surveillance in the second degree, a felony.

He was also recently arrested in an unrelated case in Center Moriches, in which Suffolk police said he exposed himself to a woman working at a clothing store. According to the arrest report, he returned to the store two more times that day, Sept. 7, "placing the victim in fear of the commission of a sex offense against her ..."  He was charged with stalking in the third degree, a misdemeanor, and is due in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip on Nov. 8.

Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota said Liguori became a registered sex offender after the U.S. Customs Service arrested him in 1998 for trafficking in child pornography, transmitting child pornography, and transporting child pornography interstate.

Southampton Village police said further charges could be forthcoming against Liguori, after detectives finish browsing photographs and other materials collected from his home.
