Review Board Wants Changes to Wooldon Manor Wall Plan

Recapping Monday's meeting of the Southampton Village Board of Historic Preservation and Architectural Review.

Here is a summary of what happened at the Southampton Village Board of Historic Preservation and Architectural Review public hearing on Monday. All board members and consultants were present except their legal counsel, Beau Robinson. The will be on May 23 at 7 p.m. at .

Applications Within an Historic District:

1. Vincent Camuto, 16 Gin Lane: repair and reinforce existing brick retaining wall surrounding part of the property.  (The same owner just demolished the in Water Mill.) Gil Flanagan, the applicant’s attorney, presented the application. A mock-up has been completed and most of the ARB members had an opportunity to review it prior to tonight’s meeting. ARB Chairman Hamilton Hogue felt the mock-up used brick that “was not even close” to matching the original brick and “was not even close” to being visually appealing. He suggested trying harder to reuse original brick, or matching the original brick, or – if all else failed – using a tan colored stucco similar to the . All the other board members seemed to agree, and Flanagan seemed to appreciate the feedback. Adjourned.

1. Andre Barnowski, 199 Halsey Neck Lane: change exterior finish from stucco to shingles. No one was present to represent the application. Adjourned.

2. Tom & Sandra Luss, 200 Little Plains Road: build a covered front port, an attached garage and an addition above the garage. Because the wrong address was printed in the newspaper and sent to the neighbors in their notifications, this application needs to be re-noticed, and will be adjourned to the next meeting.

3. Jack Chrysler, 146 Halsey Street: driveway gates. Approved.

4. , 280 North Sea Road: build a 3,053-square-foot house with a 642-square-foot attached garage. While none of the ARB members seemed to object to the proposed design of the house, which is on the rear parcel, away from the street, many items were missing from the required application check list, so the application was Adjourned.

Six or seven new applications are up next. See "Founders Review" next Thursday for details on the applications.
