PHOTOS: Main Street Shops Brace for Irene

The stores in Southampton Village closed early on Saturday, boarding and taping windows.

Stores in Southampton Village boarded and tapes their windows on Saturday in preparation for Hurricane Irene. The only stores open past 7 p.m. in the village were and .

Saturday afternoon visitors on Main Street saw store employees applying boards outside the windows of , , and . Other stores like Tenet applied boards to the inner frame of windows while stores like stuck tape to the inside of their store windows.

Michael Kors and Hildreth's employees left messages to the visitors left wandering the nearly empty streets of the village. "Go away, Irene! Be safe everyone," the boards outside Michael Kors said. The boards at Hildreth's, America's oldest department store, pleaded, "Don't Be Mean Irene."
