Incident Reports: Drunk Naked Trespasser Avoids Charges

Also among the week's reports, a Southampton motel customer smashes a fan after he can't get a refund, and a Hampton Bays couple report a swastika keyed into their car's hood.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the:

Trespassing

• A Sag Harbor man reported July 13 that he woke up that morning to find a naked man, who he does not know, in his house. The resident said he was in the kitchen when he heard noises, and he went to investigate. He saw the naked man walking in the hallway into a bedroom. The complainant called police and exited the house with his wife. When a police officer arrived, he found the naked man sleeping in a first floor bedroom. Police said the man had been highly intoxicated and let himself into the house, thinking it was a friend’s home. The friend showed up and stated he had been looking for his friend for more than two hours. The victim agreed not to pursue charges in exchange for $100 cash to pay for cleaning the bedroom. The case was closed.

Burglary

• A Flanders man reported July 12 that he received a call of an alarm at his business on Flanders Road, and when he arrived he noticed the front door window was broken and items at the business were disheveled. However, no items were reported missing.

• An East Quogue man reported July 11 that sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. someone entered his home and stole an HP laptop with case, a PlayStation 3 and other valuable items. 

Assault

• A Sag Harbor Man reported that he was drinking at the Hampton Bays Diner on July 15 when someone threw a bottle, followed by a fight breaking out. The complainant was punched in the face by an unknown assailant, causing a laceration above his left eye, according to the incident report.

• A woman working security at Hampton Quarters on Dune Road in Hampton Bays said that when she was escorting a group of women who were incolved in a dispute out the front door, one of the women threw a drink in her face and grabbed at her, and then she was hit from behind with an unknown object on her head, causing a laceration.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

• A Lake Grove man reported July 14 that while driving eastbound on County Road 39, a vehicle driving westbound came into the eastbound lane and hit his rear fender, then kept going without stopping. The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m.

• A North Sea man reported July 14 that a big white box truck backed into his driveway and hit the telephone lines on a utility pole, ripping down the lines.

Criminal Mischief

• An Enclave Inn Southampton employee reported to police on July 14 that a customer, upon learning he could not get a $419 refund after deciding he did not want to stay there, “became enraged” and threw an electric fan onto the floor, breaking it.

• A Hampton Bays man told police July 13 that someone threw a small rock and broken piece of brick through a windshield on his boat moored at a public dock.

•A Hampton Bays man reported July 11 that 57 $100 bills were removed from his unlocked vehicle in his driveway.

• A Hampton Bays woman reported July 11 that at 2:17 a.m she heard a loud bang outside her studio apartment and when her boyfriend went outside to investigate he discovered that a swastika had been keyed into the hood of a vehicle and both sides of the vehicle were scratched as well.

Grand Larceny

• A Water Mill woman reported July 9 that sometime overnight someone stole several items from an unlocked vehicle parked in Bridgehampton, including $300 cash, a white Coach handbag, a brown leather Coach handbag, brown Rayband sunglasses, an American Express card, Citibank MasterCard and Suffolk County National Bank debit card.

• A Manhattan man reported July 10 that someone picked the lock to the cabin of his yacht being kept at a Hampton Bays boatyard and stole a $2,500 life raft.

• An employee at a Bridgehampton Commons store reported July 9 that her credit card had gone missing from her pocketbook, which she left in an employee-only room on June 27. She found out online that the card was used at 7-Eleven in Manorville for a $25 charge, and at the Manorville King Kullen, for an $8 charge. The complainant canceled the charge and is contesting the charges, police said.

• A Hampton Bays woman reported July 11 that her wallet, containing a debit card, credit card, Florida driver’s license and $40 cash was stolen from her vehicle, that was parked in the Planet Fitness parking lot.

• A Bridgehampton woman reported that after leaving her vehicle parked and unlocked at the end of Ocean Road in Bridgehampton, someone stole her wallet from her bag under the seat. The $600 Louis Vutton wallet contained two credit cards, a driver’s license, a gold bracelet with blue stones, $480 cash and a blank check.

• A Bridgehampton woman reported July 10 that after she parked her vehicle outside her home with the keys left on top of the driver’s side front tire, she returned from dinner to discover the vehicle, a 2009 Lexus R35 SUV, was missing.
