Cops: Hampton Bays Man Arrested for Tailgating Officer in Water Mill

Shawn Stoeckert sped away after officer identified himself, police say.

A 25-year-old Hampton Bays man who was ran into trouble with police again Thursday in Water Mill.

According to police, at around 7:13 a.m. Thursday, Shawn Stoeckert was aggressively tailgating an officer who was driving in his personal car near the corner of Cobb Road West and Stephen Halsey Path. They both pulled over, and the officer walked back to Stoeckert’s Ford pickup truck to identify himself, police said.

Stoeckert became hostile and aggressive, and threatened to hit the officer with his car, according to police. He then sped away, officers said.

The officer, along with two others, followed Stoeckert’s pickup and approached him again, pulling him over, according to police.

Stoeckert was hostile and verbally abusive when officers tried to handcuff him, police said. He was arrested at the corner of Flying Point and Cobb roads and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and second-degree menacing, all misdemeanors.
