AERIAL PHOTOS: Massive House Fire at $6 Million Noyac Mansion

Update, 4:30 p.m.: Four hours after firefighters first arrived at a raging house fire in Noyac on Tuesday, the engines are back at the firehouse.

Flames ripped through the $6 million house at 60 Fourteen Hills Court, off of Middle Line Highway. Sag Harbor Fire Department Chief Pete Garypie said the house was damaged extensively, despite a quick response from five area fire departments.

"I was first on scene and when I got there it was fully involved, and already venting through the roof," Garypie said.

The homeowners were at home at the time — they called 911 at 10:58 a.m. after going outside to retrieve more firewood and hearing the "crackling sound" of the roof ablaze.

Garypie said the Southampton Town fire marshal's office is investigating, but that it appears the fire may have started in a rotted flue pipe. The homeowner were using the fireplace on Tuesday morning and Monday evening. The chief said it is possible the fire was smoldering all night behind the wall.

"Once it vents itself, it's too late," Garypie said.

Firefighters were limited in how they could attack the fire, Garypie said. "During our initial attack, we wanted to go in through the front door, but we already had a partial floor collapse and a partial ceiling collapse," he said. Through the course of the fire, there was more of a collapse, he added.

Neither the homeowners nor any firefighters were injured.

The chief called for assistance immediately from the East Hampton Fire Department Rapid Intervention Team.

Since there are no hydrants in the area, Sag Harbor firefighters tapped into a 10,000 gallon cistern for the initial attack, Garypie said. Tankers were requested from East Hampton, Southampton, Bridgehampton and North Sea fire departments. Springs Fire Department was called in about an hour later. He was not sure exactly how much water was used.

"We had it knocked down pretty quickly, but it was an extensive amount of overhaul," he said. Hotspots, or pockets of fire, were found and extinguished throughout the afternoon. "We wanted to make sure it was fully extinguished."

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — A fire engulfed a $6 million Noyac home Tuesday morning.

Southampton Town Police Sgt. Michael Joyce said the homeowners were in the house when they smelled smoke and called 911 at 10:53 a.m. When the husband and wife got outside, they realized the upper portion of the house was on fire, he said.

Aerial photographer Jeff Cully, of East End Fine Arts Services in Quogue, spotted the fire shortly after 11 a.m. Cully said that while shooting photos miles away over the North Fork, smoke was visible, and the flames could be seen all the way from over North Haven.

The home at 60 Fourteen Hills Court is about 10,000 square feet, according to a real estate listing from Douglas Elliman.

Sag Harbor Fire Department called in tankers from Bridgehampton, Southampton and East Hampton fire departments to help extinguish the blaze. According to chatter on emergency frequencies, the fire was "fully involved" when firefighters arrived.

The real estate listing states that the home is full of sculptures and modern art.

The Long Island Power Authority arrived after noon to cut off power. The Amagansett Fire Department sent a crew to the Sag Harbor Fire Department headquarters to standby.

Southampton Town fire marshals are investigating.
